Did you know that an olive pit is too thick and tough to sprout on its own? This means that fallen olives rarely grow into new saplings. However, when blackbirds feed on olives, the pit undergoes a natural process in our digestive system—it gets worn down and softened. Once it returns to the soil, it finally has the chance to sprout. The wild olive trees you see scattered across the mountains are the result of this natural cycle, where seeds take root after passing through us.
